Visiting Artist’s Talk – Alys Williams

For this week's Visiting Artist's Talk we welcome Alys Williams, founding director of Vitrine Gallery, London and Basel.

Alys Williams is the founding Director of VITRINE, which has galleries in London and Basel. She initiates, leads and develops the organisation and its programme. VITRINE aims to promote artistic experimentation, development and investment, with a focus on emerging interdisciplinary practice and cross-cultural exchange. Recent exhibitions include shows with Tim Etchells, Rudy Loewe, Ebun Sodipo and Luis Enrique Zela-Koort, all in autumn 2023; plus, a Frieze London presentation of work by Kara Chin.

Alys’ experience combines a deep understanding of artist, gallery and intuitional practices as well as the art market – experiences that she developed over 20 years, together with her international network. VITRINE has established a strong reputation as a selector and nurturer of new talent. It is a business she has developed from her early career, one rooted in her studies as a visual artist.

Alys also co-founded ‘SCULTURE AT’ (2014–) and ‘Performance Exchange’ (2020–) and is a Trustee on the Swiss Cultural Fund. She advises international clients, appears on panel discussions and advisory boards, and lectures at universities and residency programmes.
