Visiting Artist’s Talk – Louise Giovanelli

For this week's Visiting Artist's Talk (VAT), we welcome Louise Giovanelli.

Louise Giovanelli (B.1993) graduated with a BA in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art in 2015 and is currently studying at the Städelschule, Frankfurt, under the acclaimed American painter Amy Sillman. Giovanelli’s work was recently featured in The Anomie Review of Contemporary British Painting published by Anomie Press, which included the work of Peter Doig, Chris Offili and Cecily Brown.

In 2019, Giovanelli has had solo exhibitions at Frutta Gallery (Rome), Manchester Art Gallery and Workplace Foundation (Gateshead), following previous solo shows at The International 3 (Salford), Grundy Gallery (Blackpool) and Warrington Museum & Art Gallery. In March 2020, Giovanelli’s first solo exhibition in New York will open at Grimm Gallery. Giovanelli has undertaken a number of residencies, including at the Griffin Gallery (London), Cove Park (Helensburgh) and the Atlantic Centre for the Arts (Florida).

Giovanelli has also been the recipient of a number of prizes and awards, including The Leonard James Fine Art Prize, The Ken Billany Painting Prize, a special commendation for the Contemporary British Painting Prize, and two Arts Council England project grants. Her works are part of public collections, including at Manchester Art Gallery and the Government Art Collection, as well as private collections in the USA, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Slovakia.

The Visiting Artist’s Talk (VAT) series hosts talks by an exciting range of arts practitioners from around the world every Monday afternoon from 14:00 to 15:30 during teaching weeks.

All of our talks are compulsory for our Fine Art students but open to anyone else who would like to join us.
