Field Station: Place Updated Exhibition

The exhibition explores how we understand, experience, and shape place today.

Opening at the University of Leeds on 4 November 2026, Field Station: Place Updated is an exhibition curated by Louise K Wilson and Andrea Thoma, bringing together work by artists affiliated with the Land² network to explore the central question of what place is and how we understand, experience and shape it today.

Responding to current ecological, social, technological and political conditions, the exhibition surveys a diverse field of artistic practices and perspectives, reframing places and sites as fluid, contested and continually evolving. Through a range of media and processes, including sculpture, painting, drawing and time-based practices, the contributing artists investigate how place is sensed, constructed and transformed, generating new perspectives on environment, belonging and spatial knowledge in a rapidly changing world.

Bringing together diverse methodologies, from mapping and fieldwork to speculative and research-led approaches, Field Station: Place Updated provides a collective platform for dialogue, exchange and experimentation. The exhibition considers how artistic practice can deepen our understanding of the relationships between people, environments and the places we inhabit, offering new ways of thinking about place and its possibilities.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a one-day, in-person Land² Symposium on Friday 4 December 2026. Bringing together participants from across the network, the symposium will feature paper presentations, performances and provocations, creating a lively and exploratory platform for sharing ideas, exchanging perspectives and developing conversations around contemporary artistic practice and place.
