The Future of Journalism

School of Media and Communication academics submit written evidence to address the House of Lords Inquiry on the value of journalism to society.

In April 2020, Professor Christopher Anderson, Ian Bucknell, Dr Julie Firmstone and Dr Yuan Zeng submitted written evidence to the House of Lords Inquiry into The Future of Journalism. As members of the School's Journalism Research Group, they drew on findings from their recent research to address the Inquiry's questions about the value of journalism to society, improving media literacy, the impact of digital technologies, improving local journalism, and setting priorities for journalism education. 

As Co-Investigator on the AHRC project ‘Defining Freedom of the Press’, Dr Firmstone's work also featured in a submission to the Inquiry submitted with her project partners Dr John Steel (PI), Professor Martin Conboy, Dr Charlotte Elliott-Harvey, Dr Jane Mulderrig (University of Sheffield), Dr Carl Fox, Dr Paul Wragg (University of Leeds), and Dr Joe Saunders (University of Durham).
