Two academics from the School of Media and Communication have been elected to a prestigious subject association.
Dr Anna Zoellner, Associate Professor in Media Industries, and Chris Paterson, Professor of Global Communication, both join the International Association for Media and Communication Research’s (IAMCR) International Council.
The International Association for Media and Communication Research is the oldest global scholarly association for media education and research. Its establishment was facilitated by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1957. Today the organisation has 2,800 member and has Special Consultative Status with UNESCO and with the UN Economic and Social Council.
Elected every four years, the IAMCR’s International Council is composed of elected members (half by the membership and half by Sections). The International Council meets annually during IAMCR's conferences and throughout the year debates key issues online.
This shines a global spotlight on our School and is a feather in our cap. I suspect it is one of the few times in the 67-year history of the organisation that two International Council members hail from the same department.
Both Chris and Anna have also served as co-chairs of the IAMCR media production working group, which Chris co-founded in 1999. Chris was also an elected member of the International Council from 2012 to 2016.
IAMCR governing bodies include a General Assembly, an International Council, and an Executive Board.
