Journalism graduates celebrate success at RTS Yorkshire Student Awards 2024

Evie Samman and Taylor James received 2 out of the 3 category nominations with Evie winning the Journalism award for her report on women who weightlift.

Following their Royal Television Society Yorkshire Student Awards nominations, recent BA Journalism graduates Evie Samman and Taylor James attended the awards ceremony on 6 March where Evie took home the Journalism award. Her report, Women Who Weightlift: Raising the Bar for Gender Equality, featured interviews of women weightlifters thriving in a sport traditionally dominated by men. Evie also highlights the benefits of strength training at any age for longevity and vitality.

Taylor’s submission, The Pressures of Perfection, covers the world of male models with a focus on the pressures they are facing in the industry. Speaking to the camera, Taylor incisively states, “To work as a model is to accept you are a product as well as a person”.

Evie’s win means her report will now be considered for the Royal Television Society’s national award.
