Freelance journalist Michelle Gately explains the process behind creating a true crime podcast in a regional Australian newsroom for a global audience.
Narrative true crime and investigative shows have become a staple of the podcast charts. Mainstream broadcasters are dedicating more resources to creating podcasts as part of a broader online storytelling narrative. Podcasts are making mastheads a valuable part of the new media world and giving small newsrooms a chance to get hyper-local content to a new world-wide audience.
In 2019, Michelle Gately and producer Allan Reinikka released Predator, a five-part true crime podcast about Queensland’s first convicted serial killer. They were finalists in the 2019 Kennedy Awards in the outstanding podcast category.
This event is free but please RSVP.
