The first event of ‘The Transcultural Fantastic’ Sadler Seminar Series.
This series will open up the rich traditions of the Fantastic from a transcultural and interdisciplinary perspective, investigating utopian and dystopian thought in art, fiction and film, as well as science fiction, folktales and fantasy literature.
The first event will introduce the series through thinking about the local contexts for the Fantastic, drawing from speculative and science fiction collections in Leeds University Library’s Special Collections.
The series organisers, Ingo Cornils (School of Languages, Cultures and Societies), Sarah Dodd (School of Languages, Cultures and Societies) and Liz Stainforth (School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies) will each give short presentations, based on selected items from the collections.
Presentations will be followed by a group discussion, with the aim of identifying interdisciplinary links between these resources and wider transcultural research themes.
