PRiA/LITE Workshop: Fundamentals of Research Ethics in Pedagogic Research and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

An online workshop and surgery

One of the major barriers to undertaking pedagogic research (PedR) and scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) activities is research ethics. This workshop will address key questions when thinking about research ethics in this context. Topics will include

  • When is ethical approval required?

  • What are the key principles underpinning ethics in PedR and SoTL?

  • What are common ethical issues that you might encounter?

  • What should you consider in designing consent forms?

  • How does ethics relate to open educational research?

There will be time for questions and answers at the end of the session.

The session will be led by Dr Richard de Blacquière-Clarkson, Strategic Lead for Research Ethics, Leeds Institute for Teaching Excellence (LITE)

The workshop is aimed at all staff (academic, professional services) in the Facutly of Arts, Humanities and Cultures who are considering, or may need to consider, issues around ethics in their PedR/SoTL activities. By the end of the session, you will have a clearer idea of ethical issues relating to your project, and what you will need to consider when applying for ethical approval (if required).

The session will be recorded and shared via the PRiA sharepoint after the event.
