Maria Suarez

Please tell us a bit about yourself and your current career?

Hi! I’m Maria, a History and Arts graduate fully dedicated to Product in the Energy sector. Although I switched to a more ‘techy’ career I still enjoy going to galleries and cultural activities in my free time.

Please tell us about any other roles you’ve had since graduating from Leeds.

Since my time at the University of Leeds, I joined the start up world and couldn’t be happier. Even with all its risks I feel I’ve continued – and still am – learning so I can have a more prosper career. All my roles have included a part of Product which I really enjoy and would like to keep specialising in.

How do you think the skills and knowledge you developed at Leeds helped with your career success?

I am so grateful for my time at Leeds. Professors, activities and opportunities at the university encouraged me to explore my career outside my boundaries and trust my instincts and skills. Also, the friends I made remain in my life, which, for me, is vital.

What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?

Having finished my degree I was looking for an international experience at an important institution. After deliberating many colleges I trusted the University of Leeds for its reputation and syllabus for my MA.

What aspects of the course did you enjoy the most?

The chance to have an internship experience and the opportunity to see our projects come true, such our exhibition on the ‘Live at Leeds’ album in the Refectory.

What would you say about the learning and the support facilities in your School and at the University in general?

I used the university libraries frequently and could always find bibliography on my subjects. Also, the School was very involved in my progression and available when needed.

What would you say to anyone thinking of applying to your course?

I’d say it’s a great School, both for your professional career and personal development. I felt very accompanied in my year and a half at Leeds and wouldn’t have finished without the support of my professors. Also, it’s the nicest city, the memories you’ll make will always remain with you.
