Medieval history texts in translation
- Start date: 1 October 2004
- End date: 1 October 2020
- Funder: Internal funding
- Primary investigator: Prof Graham A. Loud
Description
This project translates a selection of medieval primary texts, translated into English. Professor Graham A. Loud (Professor of Medieval History, University of Leeds) is the project editor and facilitator.
Almost all of the texts selected and edited for this project appear in English translation for the first time. For those few which have been translated previously (sometimes only in part) the translation here is entirely new and has been made without reference to any previous version. These texts were in the first instance translated for students in the University of Leeds, as extra course materials for their undergraduate modules, notably HIST 2031 The Crusades and Medieval Christendom, HIST 3030 The Norman Kingdom of Sicily and HIST 3480 Emperor and Authority in Medieval Germany, with the intention of making available a much wider selection of primary sources than was hitherto available in these fields.
