Current Projects
We are working on a wide range of projects, drawing on our disciplinary expertise to address shared challenges.
Athena Swan
The Faculty was awarded a Bronze Athena Swan Award in August 2022 in recognition of our work to enhance gender equality across the Faculty. Find out more about our award and our action plan.
EDI Training
The University’s online interactive module An Introduction to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion provides an introductory grounding in key principles and University of Leeds policies. It is mandatory for all staff and should be repeated regularly.
You can also access a variety of short courses on gender equality, allyship, LGBT+ issues, neurodiversity, disability and wellbeing in the workplace.
The Faculty regularly offers Active Bystander training to support staff in responding to problematic behaviour in the workplace. Training dates will be sent by email, or you can contact Susan Preston for more information.
We also run an annual Leadership Futures programme to support future Faculty leaders who are currently under-represented in higher education Leadership.
Student Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Project Award
Passionate about Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)? We want to support you!
The Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures Student EDI Award supports students (either individuals or teams) to realise a project designed to enhance Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Award winners will be given £250 and a mentor (or mentors) to help them realise their project.
The scheme is open to all students - Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Postgraduate Research.
Funds can be used for any project that enhances Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. This could be:
- holding an event or workshop – a training event, guest speaker, performance or discussion
- producing a resource (might be information, but equally might be an artistic work)
- doing a small research project
- set up a network
- or anything else you feel would be of value.
Past winners of the Award include Leeds Human Rights Journal, who held a fundraising event Love Wins in support of the charity AKT which focuses on addressing LGBT+ youth homelessness.
South Asian Feminist Society
Several members of the Faculty community were involved in establishing the first South Asian Feminist Society at a UK university. The Faculty of AHC was proud to support this important initiative through our EDI Award.
Applications for the 2022-23 academic year closed on 11 November 2022. For further information, please contact Kristyn Gorton.
