Gluttony: two medieval perspectives

Part of the Sadler Seminar Series 'What to Eat? Values and Food Choice'

In this workshop, we will consider the understanding of food, and its spiritual significance, of two medieval authors: Dante and Thomas Aquinas. As well as using their work to examine the relationship between food practices and spiritual well-being, we will also be interested to explore how their different styles of writing point towards different conceptions of the nature of theological enquiry. Along the way, we hope to bring the concerns of Dante and Aquinas into conversation with modern questions about the place of food in the well-lived life.
