What made you want to apply to your course and to Leeds?

My decision to apply for the MA Design program at the University of Leeds was
driven by my academic background in Visual Communication and my passion for
how design can communicate complex ideas visually. During my undergraduate
studies, various projects and internships allowed me to witness the significant
impact of design on user experience and brand identity.

Leeds appealed to me not only for its strong reputation in design but also for its
vibrant campus life and diverse community. The university's commitment to
creativity and innovation perfectly aligns with my goals, and the opportunity to
engage with industry professionals and utilize state-of-the-art facilities made
Leeds the ideal choice for my further studies.

How has your understanding of the subject evolved since starting
the course?

Since starting the course, my understanding of design has evolved significantly.
Initially, I viewed design primarily as a tool for creating visually appealing content.
However, as I progressed through the program, I began to see design as a
comprehensive process that involves problem-solving, user-centered thinking, and
strategic communication. The coursework and projects have deepened my
appreciation for the critical role design plays in shaping user experiences and
influencing perceptions. I've also gained a better understanding of how different
design disciplines interconnect, which has broadened my perspective and
enhanced my ability to approach design challenges holistically.

How have your studies prepared you for your future career?

My studies at the University of Leeds have well-prepared me for my future career
by providing both theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The service design
courses have been particularly influential, teaching me how to design usercentered and impactful solutions. These courses helped me develop the ability to manalyze complex systems and create seamless experiences.

The final graduation project was a pivotal experience, allowing me to apply my
learning in more practical situations. It strengthened my project management
skills and emphasized critical thinking and problem-solving.

The skills I’ve developed, such as user-centered design, project management, and
holistic thinking, will be invaluable in my future career.

What would you say about the learning facilities in your School
and at the University in general?

The learning facilities at the University of Leeds, especially in the School of
Design, are outstanding. The state-of-the-art studios and latest software have
been crucial for my studies. The extensive library resources and collaborative
spaces have also been invaluable. Additionally, the supportive faculty has been
instrumental in guiding and enhancing my learning experience.

Tell us about any activities you were involved with at university
outside of your studies?

Outside of my studies at the University of Leeds, I actively participated in outings
organized by the Leeds University Union (LUU). These activities allowed me to
explore beautiful campuses across the UK and connect with students from various
disciplines.

What advice would you give to incoming students who are about
to start their own university journey?

My advice to incoming students is to embrace every opportunity that university
life offers. Be open to new experiences, whether it's joining clubs, exploring
different subjects, or meeting people from diverse backgrounds. Don’t be afraid to
step out of your comfort zone—it’s where some of the most rewarding
experiences happen.

Also, make sure to balance your academic responsibilities
with your personal well-being; taking care of yourself is key to success. Finally,
build connections with your peers and professors—they will be invaluable
resources throughout your university journey.
