The Mothers' Meeting – exhibition

The Mothers' Meeting is an exhibition that challenges the traditional stereotypes of the phrase in being used to degrade and demonise women.

We use it as a way in which alternative narratives and shared experiences can be validated and discussed through the female lens.

Through curating space for conversation, from this organic process, our exhibition brings together work exploring the 'grotesque, yet appealing' living forms and bodily matter – the softness and nuances of girlhood, feminist prose and histories, 'the animality of humans, hysteria and power, mother and child and the taboo.

Exploring the female experience – often belittled, objectified or misunderstood – and through varying practices and works, we delve into both contrasting and embracing the gruesome and abject, and the innocent and familiar.
We hope to create pieces that can both thought provoke and encourage the audience to continue the conversation outside our exhibition.

The exhibition will be opened by the Lord Mayor of Leeds, Al Garthwaite, with speeches at 5.30pm.
