Profile
I have worked as an English Language teacher (EAP, EFL, ESOL, EAL, ESP) for over thirty years in a wide range of contexts, including Japan and Turkey. I have extensive experience working in UK Higher Education and Further Education sectors and I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE). I have also been a teacher trainer (CELTA and DELTA) for over twenty years and have previously had significant International Foundation Year (IFY) course leader and module leader experience, which includes being module lead and tutor for an IFY Social Sciences module, as well as English for Academic Purposes modules. Additionally, I have taught on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This involved module leadership on an MA TESOL and dissertation supervison at undergraduate and Master’s level including MA TESOL and MA Education courses.
Research interests
My research interests are related to migration and integration, including migration experiences of international students and the role language plays in integration trajectories. I am especially interested in historical, multilevel analysis and the effect of belonging on ethnic boundary making strategies.
My current PhD study is interdisciplinary, situated in the field of migration studies. It explores intergenerational perceptions of integration through a family case study of Turkish migration to Germany from 1961 to present through an analytical framework of positioning and ethnic boundary making.
