Dr Jonathan Pearson

Profile

I have been a lecturer in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at the University of Leeds since 2023 having previously taught EAP at Chongqing University and Peking University HSBC Business School.

Prior to this, I worked as an historian at the Universities of Durham and Sunderland, having also held a postdoc at the RAI, University of Oxford. During this time I made several conference presentataions, published a monograph focused on Sir Anthony Eden’s handling of the Suez Crisis, and went on to develop research into commemoration and memorialisation in the US symbolised through the Presidency. The latter led to time working at the Harry S Truman Presidential Library and subsequent research output.

I have also worked as a photographer when I conducted documentary photographic projects in India, Australia, and the UK.

I hold an MA in TESOL with ESP, along with a BA in History, a PhD in Modern History, and an MA in Museum Studies.

Research interests

My current research focuses on practitioner and student identity, and transnational education. However, I also have research interests in the use of corpora within the classroom and the language of musuems.
