African Knowledges of Community and Belonging

this is the seventh seminar in the Sadler seminar series “African Knowledges for Global Challenges”.

This seminar focuses on the theme “African Knowledges of Community and Belonging”, and the following three presenters will address this topic from their own PhD research projects:

• Sreya Datta (English): “Critical Affiliation in Sefi Atta’s Swallow: Female Mobility, Kinship, and Survival in Neoliberal Nigeria”
• Megan Fourqurean (English): “Mami Wata and Queer Citizenship in Contemporary Nigerian Literature”
• Tamanda Walker (PRHS): “Decolonising Mental Health Services Provision: From Pathologisation to Integration of African Indigenous Belief Systems within Therapeutic Services”

The Sadler Seminar Series “African Knowledges for Global Challenges” is supported by the Leeds Arts and Humanities Research Institute, in collaboration with the Leeds University Centre for African Studies. The series is convened by Adriaan van Klinken, Brendon Nicholls, Lisa Thorley, and Abel Ugba.
