Supporting our students in their transition from school to university

This workshop will explore the transition our students make from school to university.
The transition our students make from school to university has direct links to student retention, student well-being, and student satisfaction and attainment. Each of these impacts the TEF.
School is a very different learning environment from university, with different levels of support, modes of assessment, expectations, and study skills, and it is possible we might not fully recognise how students need to adapt to make a successful transition.
This workshop will bring together academic staff, support staff, A’ level students, and 1st year undergraduates to help us gain a better understanding of what students need in their first year at Leeds. We will specifically be asking if our current approaches to induction are sufficient to meet the adaptive needs of our students and participants will co-create a list of essential steps we can all adopt to support new students.
