Dr Liz Flanagan

I obtained my PhD in Creative Writing: Teen Fiction from The University of Leeds (Leeds Trinity University) in 2017.

I taught Creative Writing at Newcastle University as Teaching Fellow in 2017-2018, before returning to The University of Leeds in subsequent years to teach in PCI.

I write for children and young adults, both short stories and novels. My research interests include creative practice, the writer as researcher, children’s literature and UK YA literature. My novels include:

  • Dragon Daughter (David Fickling Books, 2018)
  • Eden Summer (David Fickling Books, 2016)

I teach children and adults in a variety of settings, including schools and on residential writing courses for Arvon, and with partners such as The Bronte Society and The National Trust. I speak at events and literary festivals and enjoy collaboration with arts organisations across the UK.
