Dr Ioanna Ferra

I joined the School of Media and Communication as a Lecturer of Media and Communication in September 2018. I completed my PhD in Media and Communication at the University of Leicester.

My research interests lie in the field of Digital Media and its place in contemporary society, and I have a keen interest in Digital Research Methods.

I have conducted research on Digital Media and Cyber Conflict, Public Sphere and Polarization, as well as on contemporary social movements, resistance networks and society. I have used digital research methods to examine the influence of digital media on the contentious politics in Greece (2008-2015) and the political-economic sphere’s impact on the formation of the digital mediascape.

I have worked on a number of collaborative research projects including the ’2015-2017: 25 cases of Terror Attacks on Twitter’, ‘Mapping the refugees’ crisis online: the case of Idomeni on Instagram’ and ‘Social media and the environmental movement in Greece: the case of #skouries'.

I have been published in international academic journals and edited volumes and is currently working on her first book ‘Digital Media and the Greek Crisis’ (Emerald).
