Media Futures: Emergency documentaries

Hear first-hand from an aircrew-trained camera operator what it’s like to be behind the scenes of emergency programmes, Helicopter ER and 999 Rescue Squad.

Helicopter ER has raised the bar in blue-light factual, using body cameras and stunning air to air footage to give viewers a real sense of the team’s adrenaline packed workload. Air TV’s aircrew-trained camera operators are qualified to marshall choppers into tight landing sites, refuel and operate the navigation systems. Find out what it’s like to have access to the elite paramedics of the UK’s Hazardous Area Response Teams (HART), joining them as they race through the streets, responding to life or death incidents. The camera crew’s inside knowledge of aviation and emergency medicine makes watching these shows an immersive experience.

Jenny Ramsden started her career as a Junior Researcher and has since progressed to Shooting Assistant Producer at Yorkshire based company Air TV. With experience across a multitude of projects including BBC’s The Great Staycation, Jenny primarily works on two emergency programmes. After extensive training she is a qualified HEMS crew member, flying and filming with the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, as well as shooting incidents with the Hazardous Area Response Team on operational shifts.
