Mr Rupert Herington
I joined the University of Leeds in 1999. I have worked primarily at the Language Centre throughout this period and taught on a range of English language programmes. From 2005 to 2015 I was responsible for the core English for Academic Purposes module on the International Foundation Year. Since 2016, I have been the Deputy Director of the Language Centre.
My current scholarship activity is related to the development of training to support teachers involved with English Medium Instruction. Since 2014, I have been involved in designing and delivering teacher training courses for university teachers involved with English medium instruction. I have delivered training courses for university teachers at universities in Japan and China, as well as at the University of Leeds.
I have also provided teacher training courses in Brazil and Tunisia and spoken at academic conferences in Spain, Libya, Taiwan, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland and the UK. I acted as an external examiner for international foundation year modules and pre-sessional courses at the University of Newcastle, University of Bradford and the University of Southampton.
The other main area of my work since 2001 has been to facilitate international students to come to study at the University of Leeds. Since 2008 I have been responsible for the marketing of the Language Centre and its courses as well as developing institutional relationships with universities in a wide-range of countries.
I am the Director of International Activity for the School of Languages, Cultures & Societies involved in the development of international activities.
