Dr David Rojinsky
I began teaching at Leeds last summer, 2019, on the English for Law Pre-sessional and I am now a Lecturer in EAP for the coming academic year. I had previously taught on a number of summer pre-sessionals for postgraduate students (primarily) from the PRC who were specialising in a range of fields at different universities in the UK. I gained my early experience as a language instructor when teaching EFL in Portugal and Mexico in the 1980s. Since then, I have also worked as a lecturer in Spanish and Latin American Cultural Studies in both North American and UK universities.
I am currently in the very early stages of exploring the question of culturally-specific scripts and how non-alphabetic writing systems presuppose a ‘non-Western’ logic which might inform students’ engagement with writing practices in Anglophone academia; and hence, what strategies might be adopted when teaching writing to (specifically) Chinese students in the EAP classroom to accommodate for precisely that distinction.
Research projects

Any research projects I'm currently working on will be listed below.
