Discover Articulation Challenge

The Discover Articulation Challenge is an annual competition for Key Stage 4 students, the final for which takes place every year at the University of Leeds. It is part of Articulation, one of the National Gallery’s key learning programmes for young people nationwide.

Built on the success of the Articulation Prize for sixth formers (held annually at Cambridge University), it has been designed to stimulate students’ interest and understanding of art while developing individual thinking, observation, research, language and presentation skills.

The competition seeks to engage Key Stage 4 students, regardless of background or experience, with art and to develop their confidence and ability to express their opinions, thoughts and conclusions.

It is organised by the University of Leeds alongside partners, The National Gallery.

Articulation Discovery Days

Articulation Discovery Days are designed to engage Key Stage 4 and 5 students with visual art. At these free workshops students will discover how individual artworks act as a catalyst for wider critical thinking whilst working together using a range of sources (articles, letters and interviews) to explore ideas and carry out research. By the end of the day, students will present their findings to a panel of curators and academics.

The sessions are organised in partnership with the School of Fine Art, History of Art and Cultural Studies. The content of the sessions is relevant to English, art and history students. Contact ArtsOutreach@leeds.ac.uk for further information.
