Dr Chiasson Basil

I joined the School of English in July 2017 and am responsible for carrying out research for Dr Mark Taylor-Batty's AHRC-funded inquiry into all the major UK productions of Harold Pinter's work for stage, screen and radio. My principal activities for this project consist of conducting interviews, searching through archives and online and populating an open access database (available in 2020) with information about productions of Pinter's work from 1957 to the present. I did my PhD at Leeds in the School of English, and spent several years in Canada teaching in English and Drama programmes on the history of theatre and performance and on numerous topics in English.

Research interests

My research interests and publications range from the life and work of Harold Pinter and his comtemporaries, to more recent playwrights such as Simon Stephens and Dennis Kelly, to the ascendancy of neoliberalism and its varied impact upon the dramatic arts and life in Britain.
