East Asian Studies masters degrees
East Asian Studies at Leeds is a leading centre for research in the region, with over 50 years of history. We have since grown into one of the largest centres of East Asian Studies in Europe. We have more than 25 academic members of staff including many native speakers of Chinese, Japanese and Thai. Leeds is also home to very substantial and world-renowned specialist library collections.
We are a vibrant scholarly community with students and staff from a variety of backgrounds and from all over the world. We also formed part of the White Rose East Asia Centre (WREAC).

MA by Research
A number of our undergraduate Thai students continue to study with us and undertake a Masters by Research (MAR). We also welcome students from other institutions who wish to join Thai Studies at Leeds.
Thai Studies at Leeds has an impressive track record of securing funding from the Thai Embassy with many of our MAR students successfully receiving funding. Our relationship and ongoing work with the Embassy allows our students and graduates to progress and develop their understanding of Thai culture.

If you want to conduct specialised research in a particular discipline relating to China, Japan, Thailand, South East Asia or the Asia-Pacific generally, East Asian Studies at Leeds offer the following research degrees: MPhil, Masters by Research (MAR) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). We have a broad range of research expertise and are able to supervise across a spectrum of East Asian Studies related subjects.
