Profile
I currently provide electron microscopy provision for the School of Design and have had many years experience involved with the testing and imaging of textiles structures. I have been a Technician in the School of Design (formally the Department of Textile Industries) since 1996. Prior to joining the school I had been in the paper making industry. I have gained a BSc covering Mechanical Engineering and Pollution Control. I am a fellow of the Royal Microscopical Society. Within the school I am a first aider and fire warden, also, assisting the security officer regularly. For the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Ciltures I am the Technician Champion. I have been involved with a variety of outside-funded research projects that involve much work with industrial partners. I am regularly involved with instructing students and staff in textile testing methods for research projects and carrying out microscopical work for students.
- Use of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) imaging techniques for textiles structures and components
- Pilling of textile structures
- 3D imaging of textiles by use of SEM techniques
- Technical support and instruction if required on TEXT3085
- Ad hoc textile testing teaching for under graduate, and post graduate students
