Caprice Bourret visits School of Design

Former supermodel and fashion businesswoman Caprice Bourret recently visited the School of Design to talk to current students about her experiences of running a business in fashion and textiles.

Caprice is known for her career as a model who enjoyed global success as well as appearances across television, film and theatre. In 2006 she invested money to start up a new womens lingerie brand – By Caprice and has since gone on to launch homeware textile products including bedding, curtains and accessories. She has successful partnerships with retailers such as Debenhams and Littlewoods and her lingerie products are sold across three continents, in both high street and independent retail stores.

Caprice visted the School as part of our weekly Fashion Forum which gives students in the School chance to hear from a series of visiting speakers about their experience of working in industry from highlights to challenges. It is an opportunity to gain a real insight into the world of fashion and also aims to inspire our students to prepare for success in their future career.

Jeffrey Thorpe, Programme Manager for BA Fashion Design said “She engaged with the students and they were fascinated to hear about her journey from supermodel to businesswoman.”

Caprice also enjoyed the visit and said “ I was blown away by the facilities at Leeds’ School of Design and made to feel very welcome by the talented students and staff – they asked such excellent questions. I will definitely be back.

We were delighted to welcome Caprice and our students benefited greatly and were motivated by her story of success in creating and launching a new brand.
