Find out about careers in conference interpreting and try interpreting in a booth

Chris Burin (European Commission), discusses working for the European institutions, and opportunities for interpreters after Brexit.

Chris Burin, a staff interpreter from the European Commission, will give an insight into the industry and profession. He will talk about what it is like working for European institutions, and discuss available opportunities for interpreters after Brexit. The EU still needs English speaking interpreters and certain languages are currently in high demand.

Staff from the Masters in Conference Interpreting in Leeds will also be available to answer any questions you may have.

There will also be the opportunity to try out simultaneous interpreting in a booth. Depending on numbers, it may be possible to take a group to the interpreting suites in the Parkinson building after the event, or alternatively, to arrange a more convenient time.

The School of Languages, Cultures and Societies is offering 14 Head of School Scholarships to students joining our MA and MRes courses this September, with additional awards for those studying translation and interpreting. In addition, current University of Leeds students get a 10% discount on tuition fees.

This session is primarily focussed towards final year undergraduates with any of the following languages: French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. All other undergraduates with these languages are also most welcome.
