The Mangoletsi Lecture Series for 2018

The Mangoletsi lecture series 2018 is announced.

The Mangoletsi Lectures are an annual series of four public lectures aimed at a general academic audience, addressing topics in 'theoretical philosophy' broadly construed. The series is funded by the Mangoletsi Trust. The trust was set up by our former colleague Dr Timothy Potts to honour the commitment of his late mother to education, and it also supports both the award of an annual prize for an undergraduate dissertation and the study for a Masters degree by Research in Philosophy.

This year's lectures are by Sally Haslanger.

Sally Haslanger is Ford Professor of Philosophy and Women and Gender Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 2010, she was named the Distinguished Woman Philosopher of the year by SWIP (Society of Women in Philosophy). In 2011, she received the YWCA Cambridge Women of Distinction Award. In 2014, she received MIT's Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award and in 2015 the "Faculty Ambassador Award" from MIT's Office of Multicultural Programs. She has served as the President of the Eastern Division of the American Philosophical Association in 2013-14 and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2015.

She is the author of many prestigious and highly cited works, including her recent book Resisting Reality: Social Construction and Social Critique (OUP 2012), and numerous essays and lectures, such as “Culture and Critique”, presented at the 2017 Aristotelian Society Meeting.
